"Forensics are trying to piece them together as we speak to try and figure what general shape they were. They think it might've been the murder weapon, but I'm not so sure. Either way, I doubt the world's best jigsaw solver can piece together that mess."
Jinn scratched the back of his head and groaned in frustration.
"This damn fire destroyed anything useful here. Take a look."
He directed Goibniu to a cut across the wall. The cut looked like it was done by a blade except it twisted in ways impossible for a blade to move.
"See? The cut is covered in burns. same for all the other cuts," Jinn explained. "That means the fire happened after all these cuts were made. Whoever did this made sure to burn everything up to cover his tracks. And to do that so close to the residential areas, this guy is gutsy."
The officer grumbled, pulling on his gloves as he mulled over the cut against the wall.
It was then a uniformed policeman ran up to them with a stack of papers.
"Mr. Jinn, the results came in!" he reported stoicly.
"Well don't just stand there, hand them over!" Jinn ordered. He snatched the papers up and scanned through them. He grabbed his head with his hands and groaned loudly in frustration. "Inconclusive?? Nothing?? Not even an ID on the victim?? How is this possible??"
The papers caught fire in his hands and disintegrated.
Even if Goibniu started searching for scent trails now, the fire had in fact burned anything useful away. There wasn't even a scent of blood in the air anymore.
