Sakigake: The Red Archipelago Empty Sakigake: The Red Archipelago

Post by Lilac Sat Jul 07, 2018 2:36 am

Far from the peninsula continent of Esterelf is the land of Sakigake. An archipelago, Sakigake consists of several main masses of land and multiple miniature islands. The main five kingdoms of Esterelf were surprised to learn of Sakigake's existence, let alone that an entire different race existed there: the Enkidu. Sakigake merged together the beauty of wild environments with the grandeur of highly advanced technology--technology that put even the progressive Stahlmin to shame.  While Sakigake remains far in terms of travel to Esterelf, they have become more involved than ever in Esterelf's affairs as a result of the mass immigration of Enkidu a few decades back in order to escape the bloody war of factions wanting hold of imperial power. While the war has been temporarily placed on hold, tensions are still high, and many prefer to leave the homeland and live their lives in Esterelf.  As for Esterelf's five kingdoms, each have their own agenda for befriending the distant nation.

    Geography:

The archipelago of Sakigake is split into eight different regions. While the country has a generally temperate climate, temperatures can vastly differ in the extreme north and south, with the northern regions subject to harsh winters and snowy mountain areas, and the south being far more tropical and having long shores and typhoons. In contrast to Esterelf,  the capital regions of Sakigake are predominantly twilight to red in color as a result of mineral deposits and odd particles in the sky and waters. The earth is mostly rusty and clay in color. However moving away from the center, the sky turns a grayish white in the north and a deep cerulean in the south. Since Sakigake places most of its technological focus on weaponry instead of industry, much of the land save for the central imperial regions remain rural with wide open fields, rice terraces, and lush forests and rivers.

    Economy:

The warring factions in Sakigake proved a challenge economically in Sakigake. Much of the wealth remains with those of noble positions, soldiers, or hired arms, while villages focus on providing for themselves by the means of agriculture. The central regions, however, have started making a recovery. With many areas becoming sweet spots for mining precious metals and minerals, towns and villages build themselves with the hope of making profit off of hungry workers who cannot provide comforts for themselves. Theaters, operas, and fighting shows have also gathered popularity, and many times performances even take place at the Imperial Palace. That said, Sakigake is far from being economically prosperous. Villages are still subject to raids, and unless you have any good skills or are in a place where you can grow food and make items for yourself, you'll find it extremely tough to survive and will often settle for a mining job.

    Political System:

The official Sakigake government is based around a single imperial ruler whose title is passed down to direct hereditary heirs. The emperor has a house of advisers made up of scholars who aid him in decisions and consultation, however the emperor himself always has final say. The emperor appoints lords who are charged with maintaining their select territories of land and people an enforcing the imperial laws. Lords of the land tend to be made of scholars who have shown exemplary service to the country and the emperor. However, if their land or their people suffer under them, or they have committed crimes against the imperial house, their titles and assets can be stripped by the emperor at any time.

The emperor is always expected to produce many sons and all sons despite age and maternal descending equally compete for the throne. The emperor is always the son who displays the highest ability in academic, military, and physical ability.

The Edonaga clan has maintained this system for 12 generations since the original great uniting.

    People:

The enkidus of Sakigake pride themselves in hard work and honor. They live off the land and give back as much as they take. Their great advances in technology is devoted almost entirely to just tools that only help at a task rather than do it entirely. Enkidus hold great value for their traditions and values. The oldest male always hold the highest authority in the individual household and respect is always given to ones elder in the family.

Enkidus pride themselves as great hunters and warriors but make a point never to take too much from the land. They hold great respect and provide for their families.

Those who possess metal limbs tend to be looked on with either pity or shame. The unnatural limbs make it difficult for them to tap into their full physical ability and transform, so possessing one is considered a personal embarrassment.

The enkidus value hard work, merit, and tradition. The people are normally very reserved and polite. They hold a bit of displeasure to outsiders and keep to their ways. However, when it comes to celebrations and festivities, the enkidus love spirited festivals and boisterous shows.

Above all, enkidus value and honor their family and heritage.

    Notable Cities and Towns:

    • Edo - The capital city and home of the imperial palace. The imperial city was founded and built by the great uniter upon his success in conquering the lands. Edo is the center of trade, politics, and government in Sakigake.

    • Onigaishima - An island that houses a concentrated population of ox and bull enkidu. Ox and bull enkidus have great stamina and physical strength even compared to most enkidus. The island of Oni, ran by descendants of the Great Uniter's first commander, Oni Gouzen-o, remains prosperous despite the ongoing civil war while also loyal to the emperor. The population of Onigaishima has a tendency to be very energetic and spirited.

    • Kami-O-Yama - Mountain of the Gods, the highest standing mountain on Sakigake, said to be viewable from all corners of the country. The peak of the mountain disappears above the clouds. The land at its base is very fertile and plentiful in fruit, however the climb is steep and treacherous. Even the strongest enkidus, who boast powerful stamina and physical ability, find the climb to be treacherous. In local myths, it is said that a wise mountain sage lives at the peak of the mountain and is able to grant those capable of reaching him great strength.

    • Ryugu-jo - The port city facing the sea closest to Esterelf as well as a major trade city. The naval guard make it a point to turn away any boats coming in that don't belong to official Sakigake merchants or representatives, however they will aid in giving transportation to Esterelf to anyone who decides to leave.
