Corvus (and Fey) Empty Corvus (and Fey)

Post by KitKet Sat Jul 06, 2019 4:00 am

Name: Corvus “The Crow of Dearmad”
    Gender: Male
    Age: 39

    Race: Walpurgis
Citizenship: N/A (Currently wandering near Eisleyn)

    Occupation: Mercenary

Appearance: Corvus looks every bit the part of his occupation. He dresses light enough to be quick, but protected enough to be able to at least take a few hits. He normally wears a light leather jerkin over a plain white dress shirt with rolled up sleeves. Around this he wears a short, black tattered cloak.

He is on the taller side, being 5’10. He is tan, always seems to have a bit of stubble on his face and is wearing a near constant lighthearted smirk. His eyes flash a constant gold, though, that was never his original color. Truthfully, much of what he looks like is artificial. A trick that was played on him by his own incantus stuck him with unearthly beautiful looks. While he doesn’t quite mind the attention it gets him, he ALSO isn’t a fan of being tricked.

Personality: Since he was young, Corvus has always been a pragmatic sort. He often looks for the simplest way to overcome a problem. In his eyes, the more complex a plan, the easier it is to go completely wrong. He is not incapable of forming such plans, he just quite often does not see the point. Despite this, he’s an intelligent man, which many years of experience under his belt.

These experiences did little to shape the man he is today, oddly enough, it was meeting his incantus. The constant companionship throughout his life, as tiring as it could be, made him retain much of his own humanity. Rather than becoming a cold and serious person, he stayed lighthearted and mischievous, albeit a bit tired. He quite often has a clever word for any situation he’s in. This can often lead to him getting into even more trouble than he might already be in though. Due to his years of constant sarcasm, much of what he says can sound pretty disingenuous as well, leading to further trouble of course.

Despite all this, his loyalties are easy enough to obtain. They are also quite easy to lose as well. There are few people in the world Corvus is willing to die for. That specific number certainly isn’t going up any time soon. Currently, the two most important lives in his eyes are his incantus’ and his own. He doesn’t have any grandstanding plans to fix the world or anything like that. He’s happy to work until he has amassed enough Denar to buy a small castle somewhere and live there until he gets bored.

At least, that’s what he tells himself.

In truth, the rebellious spirit of his youth never really died out. He hates the Expiate and most countries that allow them to continue their crimes against his kind. He figured that a decade or two in dearmad would’ve cooled his head, but it only really suppressed his anger. He’ll take any chance to screw over the Expiate and any who support it at this rate. He’s quite careful to not let this opinion slip, though. He knows well that it isn’t a popular one.

History: Corvus’ history didn’t exactly start out great. He was born to two human parents. His father worked and a miner and his mother tended a bar in Aldmerrow. He didn’t get the chance to learn this, though. When he was still very young, his powers showed themselves. Once his parent’s learned their son was a Walpurgis, paranoia took over. Rather than involve the expiate, they gave him the boot. He didn’t wander long before he was picked up by a wandering group of Walpurgis. They were mostly a group of thieves, simply trying to get by in the world. He was lucky enough that they had been working a mission in his area.

For the next several years of his life, he traveled with the group. Everything naturally changed when they decided to rebel against the Expiate. His teenage years were spent in a small scale war. He lost a lot in that rebellion. Friends, family, even his own soul. In an act of desperation, he made a deal with an Incantus. To this day he doesn’t regret that deal, but it was an important decision to him nonetheless. Of course, it was all thrown away for a facsimile of peace. He saw the writing on the wall, he knew it wouldn’t last. No one listened though…

After the deal was struck with the Expiate, Corvus left and wandered in Dearmad for many years. There he would strike down moira and any corrupted beasts he’d come across. He’d travel into ruins and bring back artifacts. He often made a lot of Denar that way. Over time, he made a name for himself, with more time that passed, though, that name became legend. It was mostly due to his own incantus, Fey. She was fond of impossible legends and thought to make Corvus into one. The Legend of ‘The Crow of Dearmad’ ended up being quite grim. It demanded respect, but many fear Corvus by name alone.

Recently, the crow has decided to leave Dearmad behind, at least for a bit. What his goal is and where he might end up, only he and his incantus know.

    Weapon: Odonata

    • First Form : The sword itself, a creation of his Incantus, Fey. Has an odd appearance. The grip of the sword is wrapped in green leaves, the hilt shining aquamarine. The blade itself shines the same, yet it is strangely translucent. It looks similar to the wings of a dragonfly, but cuts sharper than most blades in existence.

    Skills:

Master Swordsman: Corvus fell in love with the blade when he was younger. He loved a good fight, and would happily rush into any chance to prove his skill. This almost idiotic courage laid the groundwork for a mastery of the sword. He is an absolute force to be reckoned with in battle and can easily dismantle most opponents without breaking much of a sweat.

Destruction (wind) Expert: From a young age, Corvus has trained himself to specialize in wind magic. He never tends to use it alone though, often mixing it with sword strikes and movement. This has held him back slightly from being a true master, but even without a sword he can hold his own.

    Spells:
Flash step - This spells description is in the name. Using the wind to aid him, Corvus will suddenly flash forward, covering a short to medium distance. This often leads to a follow up attack. He has learned enough to be able to cast this spell in quick succession, making him hard to track on a battlefield.

Thousand Kisses - After a moment of concentration, Corvus with wreath his sword in swirling winds. His strikes will turn into blurs. Each strike that hits carries a several small cuts with them. While not lethal, these cuts can quickly wear down an opponent.

Gust - At the end of a strike, Corvus can unleash a small blast of wind, capable of breaking someone’s guard or putting them off balance.

Tornado - Exactly as it sounds. The wind in the area around an enemy will suddenly begin to pick up rapidly. Within seconds a small tornado will appear, either sucking in enemies or trapping them in the center. Enemies in the eye of the tornado will find their breath leaving their lungs and they will quickly begin to suffocate if they don’t find a way out.

Wind Tunnel - A spell that requires some concentration. Corvus can trap an object in a small vortex of wind and carry it in different directions. He often uses this to launch his sword or retrieve it if it has been knocked out of his hands.
    --
Illusion Intermediate: Most of what he learned about illusion comes from Fey. He is not heavily reliant on it, as Fey tends to do most of the illusion casting. Still, when he is without her, he can still mimic SOME of the spells she seems to know.

    Spells:
After image - Corvus makes a copy of himself that only lasts for a few seconds. It looks real, but doesn’t make any sound. He can make it react to attacks, but only if he pays close attention.

Smoke and Mirrors - Corvus can make minor changes to the environment around him. He uses this to place or hide objects that may trip up his opponent. Of course, if he is not calm and focused, these illusions can be quite easy to spot.

!!?!?!?!?!? - Corvus can surprise his enemies by lacing this spell on top of others. This spell causes his attacks to seem MUCH more threatening than they actually are. A small cut? Well suddenly you’re bleeding heavily. A simple gust of wind? Suddenly it’s a vortex dragging you into an abyss. An effective spell, but one that easily exhausts Corvus. Once seen through, it won’t work again for quite awhile.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Corvus’ strength in combat is easy to see. His abilities with magic and blade compliment each other well, and him and Fey have been working closely together for almost two decades now. As a team, they are almost unbeatable. Sadly, that team doesn’t allow for more people. Fey gets easily frustrated when working with others and Corvus tends to think he knows best.

Also, both of them can be very indiscriminate with their illusions. While they know each other well enough to see through each other’s magic, most others don’t. They can wind up attacking an enemy that’s not there, or smacking themselves with their own weapons. There is a reason why Corvus tends to work alone. When he actually HAS to watch out for others, his effectiveness in battle can be severely hampered.

    Allusion:
    Incantus:

    • Name: Fey
    • Apparent gender: Female
    • Appearance:  Usually, Fey takes the shape of a crow and makes herself rather scarce. This form is ONLY when they are in more populated areas. Her ‘true’ form is similar to that of a small pixie. Usually, her hair is dark with feathers sticking out on the ends. Her eyes glow yellow and she wears a white sundress. Her wings are similar to a dragonfly, and shine a soft purple. Usually though, she uses illusion magic to make her appear a bit ‘cuter’ in her opinion. Her hair changes to a braided blond, her eyes a sky blue, her wings become that of a butterflies. She is quite proud of this form, and quite enjoys spreading rumors of ‘playful fairies.’

    • Demeanor: Fey is an odd sort, even for an Incantus. She constantly insists that her ‘shifted form’ is her true form. She’s obsessed with the concept of legends, but is often disappointed when many turn out to be untrue. On the off chance they might be real? She can be a bit of a fan girl, often forgetting herself in dangerous situations if that danger just so happens to be legendary. Despite looking small and cute, she is often anything but. She’s fond of drinking, smoking and sleeping and is often rude and boisterous to those around her. She’s known for saying the first thing that comes to her mind and completely lacks a censor. At the very least, she’s honest about her emotions and intents, though, this can be a detriment at the same time.

    • Special Powers: Fey specializes in illusion magic. It is both a skill and a passion of hers. Her knowledge is quite extensive, to the point where she can teach others if they can follow her teaching style. She attained mastery to the point where she can saturate entire areas and make things like weather, wind and even time of day under her control. Larger illusions like this take incredible amounts of concentration, and often exhaust her. This can lead her to sleeping for several days after a larger spell. The other downside would be how many people enter the area. She’d need to stay close by in order to keep the effect. If too many people enter the affected area, she might very well pass out.

Generally, anyone within sight of her can be affected by her simple illusions. Any glamor spell she casts on herself should show to anyone. If she wants something more specific, she’ll have to contrate on the area itself, or the specific person she’s casting the spell on. The former is the more exhausting of the two, of course. She’s quite good at casting multiple illusions at the same time, though the more she casts, the less complex she’ll need them to be.

She can even make people up and hurt themselves via her illusions, though, she hasn’t quite gotten down KILLING them yet. They mostly pass out after a certain amount of trauma. Oddly enough, she can’t bring herself to kill others and mostly relies on Corvus for help with that.

    • Strengths/Weaknesses: Fey is her own weakness. Her inability to take most things seriously is a detriment in and out of combat. Her attitude with others seemingly shift with the wind, and she can often sling spells at Corvus’ allies simply because they drew her ire. At the same time, her mastery over illusions can turn the tide of even the most hopeless battle as long as she keeps her focus.

She has always worked well with Corvus, though the same can’t be said about literally anyone else.

    • Mantra: Aut viam inveniam aut faciam - I will either find a way, or make one.
