    Jack Spriggans Empty Jack Spriggans

Post by Grimoire Mon Jun 03, 2019 1:52 am

Name: Jude Johnathon Spriggans (Jack for short)
    Gender: Male
    Age: 25

    Race: Human

    Citizenship: Saoirse

    Occupation: Travelling Adventurer

Appearance: Jack is a spry but fit young man with blonde hair and green eyes. He possesses a fit and healthy build befitting a young man who’s worked long hours on the farm. He often wears a leather jerkin and boots with cloth britches, cloths fitting for a traveler. He usually carries a leather satchel at his belt and a green traveller’s cloak. His most striking feature however is his missing left arm, replaced with a wooden prosthetic. Various cartic markings are carved into the fingers and arm. He has a young face and sunny disposition.

Personality: Jack is a simple and carefree hopeful. As a farmboy raised out in the country regions of Saoirse, he’s not accustomed to the city or people outside of his small town. Due to all of this, he can’t help but to be constantly and very honest, often thinking what’s on his mind without thinking about it. Jack has a rather fortright mindset. When he sees someone in trouble, he can’t help but give them a hand (even though he’s missing one of his own). To protect people in danger, he’ll throw himself headfirst in the way to the point of recklessness.

Despite appearing simple and honest, Jack is clever and intuitive. He absorbs and reacts to things quickly and is more learned than he appears to be. Its just that his thought process and behavior is instinctual by nature.

History: Jack grew up on a farm in the countryside of Saoirse. He was raised alone by his mother. He never knew his father, he disappeared around the time he was born. However his mother was never spiteful about the man. The room in the house that used to be the man’s study was always kept neat and dusted, as if she was keeping it presentable for his return.

Jack didn’t care about the man. He just wanted to continue taking care of his mother, working on their little farm up the hill from the small town out on the countryside. He grew up a hard worker, earnest, honest, and healthy. Then the accident happened.

It happened rather suddenly and tragically. Jack was tilling the fields on the ox driven iron reaver when it got stuck. It was nothing abnormal. It probably got hooked on a stubborn root or something. So he hopped down and tried to take a look. Then something happened. It could’ve been a snake or a rat or a spider, Jack had no idea. Yet, at that moment the ox got spooked and went wild, and before he realized what had happened, the giant blades of the reaver went straight through his arm.

Jack made it out okay, everything considered. The town’s doctor was luckily by the farm that day to check on a sickly horse for them. Jack made it out with his life intact, but there was nothing to be done for his arm.

Jack became very downtrodden after that. There was no way he could continue to do farm work with only one arm and he can’t even do house chores properly. Day after day went by and he progressively started to resemble an old horse waiting to die.

Then one bored day, his father’s study caught his eye. He never had much interest in the small room before but something drew him to it today. Since then, he passed the days reading the books there.

His father was a cartic scholar, working on a magical science of his design, life magic. His ideas and practices were largely seen as underdeveloped and theoretical, so it was never accepted in academia.

Jack became absorbed in the books and journals his father left behind and when he managed to sprout a small flower before his mother’s eyes, life slowly started coming back to his eyes.

He went on passing the days with studying and reading, completely enamored with the books. Then two years after his accident on his birthday, a strange package arrived at their doorstep addressed to him. When he opened it, he found a wooden arm, designed and enchanted to work with the principles of Life Magic.

It took some time but slowly and progressively, Jack became accustomed to the arm, moving it like a slight estranged limb of his own. Course he couldn’t move it long. Moving it even a little required an active stream of lei energy which he could not draw in efficiently with the simple rock he’s been using.

Regardless, he became determined to go out and find the sender. He didn’t want to leave his mother alone, but it’s not like a wooden arm made him more helpful around the house. And more than that, he felt this was something he had to do.

Just as he was packing up supplies, his mother came to give him a gift for luck, her engagement ring.

His father may not have been a very successful or famous magic scholar, but he saved up and made enough to buy a simple woman like Jack’s mother a diamond ring.

With his tools in hand, Jack set off on his journey with determination.

Weapon: Terre Recolte – a mechanical tool crossing a shovel and a pocket tool designed by Stahlim toolsmiths. It is equipped with several hunting and camping tools.

    • First Form – A shovel with a bladed edge. It’s perfect for camping and cutting wood and vines.
    • Second Form – A long barbed spear. Designed for hunting and combat.

    Skills:
    • Cartic Life magic (Master) – A unique school of magic that combines principles of restoration and alteration magic. It resonates magic energy with plant life energy in order to manipulate it. The logic and theory behind this is largely theoretical and underdeveloped, so it was never accepted as a study of magic.
      • Magisynthesis – Using his wooden arm as a catalyst, he imbues lei energy into plantmatter touched by it. He is able to manipulate this energy remotely so long as the imbued magic does not run out.
      • Green thumb – Magic to control plants imbued with lei energy by Magisynthesis. User can move and manipulate plant matter to some degree. This in itself requires minimal degrees of magic consumption. Jack uses this to constantly control his wooden prosthetic.
      • Magical Invigoration - User can force the plant to grow at an accelerated and augmented state. The more augmented the scale of the growth, the more magic power is required. This can even be used on plant matter that is no longer alive such as carved out wood.
      • Revert – A reversal of Magical Invigoration. Reverts the growth of a plant back to its previous state. Cannot be used on unliving or destroyed plant matter.
      • Green Man– Jack can use Nature Magic to create golems of plant matter. By imbuing them with preprogrammed behavior patterns, the golems are mostly autonomous.

        • Prologue – A small compact sized golem no larger than a chicken. It looks like a hedge bush with stubby wooden hands and feet. It requires very little magic but is only really useful for menial and simple tasks.
        • Chapter 1 – A mid-sized golem about 10 ft tall. Its body and limbs are largely made of twisting vines. A strong unit for combatting small groups of enemies in enclosed spaces.
        • Chapter 2 – A large golem as tall as a house. It has limbs of wood reinforced by twisting vines that also act as hands. Its defensive and strength parameters are on par with stone golems. It requires a large toll of magic energy to create, but it’s a powerful unit with an innate weakness to fire.

    • Restoration magic (novice) – Jack can perform simple healing magic to repair damaged tissues, however is not proficient enough to remove toxins or repair bones or organs.
    • Cartic Rune Magic (Advanced) – The practice of imbuing and enchanting objects using runes, typically stones or tile pieces. Jack uses this to imbue stones that he can use to cast simple spells on the fly. That stones are destroyed once used and making them takes a lot of time and energy, so he usually has about ten of each made in advanced.

      • Flame – a blast of fire that shoots in a forward stream.
      • Magic Arrow – a straight shooting piercing shot with a projectile made of concentrated and pressurized magic.
      • Explosion – A burst of fire and energy that cases damage within a five foot radius upon impact. A powerful and destructive spell that shouldn’t be used recklessly.
      • Torchlight – Creates a ball of light that follows the caster and illuminates that area around them.

    • Herbology (Advanced) – Has proficient knowledge and herbs, plants, and vegetation from a combination of farming experience and general studies.
    • Lancer (Intermediate) – Jack is proficient at polearms and spear combat from hunting, however he never had an actual teacher and he’s innately not a warrior. His style and technique are largely improvised and self-taught.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Jack is spry and has keen natural instincts. He is honest to a fault and his study of magic being so unique gives him an element of surprise over his opponents. Depending on his environment, he has a range of versatility and options. However, Jack never received formal training and in terms of combat he lacks experience. He also tends to put others over himself, causing him to throw himself into harm’s way.

Allusion: Jack Spriggans from Jack and the Beanstalk
