    Name: Valen Moroqueth
    Gender: Male
    Age: 25

    Race: Walpurgis Warlock

    Citizenship: N/A

    Occupation: Wandering Nomad

Appearance: Valen stands at 5’10” with a lean but toned figure. His black hair is medium length with graying streaks across it, the bangs falling over on side of his face. He wears a pair of spectacles over his topaz-colored eyes. His attire includes a leather sleeveless longcoat with Cartic runes sewn along the end of the tail. He also wears a red vest and black pants along with a pair of leather boots. He also wears a black shirt, the sleeves tucked into a pair of metal gauntlets and gloves.
    Character sketch:

Personality: Overall quiet with a devil may care disposition. While not outgoing sociable, if others talk to him, he’s willing to hold a conversation. He’s analytical in nature. He looks at things tactically to decide the best course of action. As he hates doing unnecessary things, everything he does and will do, he tries to plan out. He thinks fast and thinks clearly, but in sudden moments where others are in danger, he may act on instinct to protect those around him.

His past life as a soldier remains to haunt him, as he still seems to retain a certain sense of chivalry. He hates it when people brag or tote around what they believe to be power or strength, but at the same time he has respect to power when it’s there. But when push comes to shove, when what he considers to be the wrong is pushed too far, he will fight the good fight to defend what is right in his eyes. He helps others who need his aid without a word.

He tends to act a lot older than he actually is; the gray streaks on his hair not helping him look any younger. He is a bit of a pessimist, looking at things rather negatively. His outlook in life is “If you never expect anything good, you’ll never be disappointed when terrible things happen.”

    History:

Raised in the Eisleyn kingdom, Valen was an adept scholar of the Cartic arts. His family was always loyal to the throne and so was he. Many of his forefathers were militants, and he grew up to be the same. Enrolled at a young age, he performed with valor and gradually rose the ranks until he was a captain in command of a platoon.

Even as the arguably harsh rule of the princess came, he remained loyal to his duties. Then one night, a walpurgis was found and killed after resisting capture, but its Incantus escaped. Valen and his platoon were dispatched to detain it, leading them to a chase through the icy terrain of the surrounding mountainous area.

They gave chase to the incantus under the word of their princess. That night, a snowstorm hit the area without warning. Biting through cold, sharp winds, and blinding snowfall, the platoon struggles to find their target when corrupted beasts suddenly ambushed them.

Blinded and crippled by the storm, the soldiers were caught unprepared to combat the new threat. He fought hard and well, taking the vanguard to give his men a chance to counter, but he quickly found his magic ability too little after fighting through the storm all night. He was beaten badly and he watched his men struggle before slowly meeting the same fate. Blinded by the snow and battle, his soldiers didn’t see the incantus they were chasing talking to their captain.

The incantus whispered to the wounded Valen, lulling him into the offer of a contract. The young man struggled, torn between all that he knew and his loyalty to his princess and the desire to get his men back to their families alive. In the end, he fell to the temptation.

Practically revived from the dead, the incantus granted Valen the power to save his men. He fell the corrupted beasts and afterwards dragged his men back to the kingdom all on his own. That night, all of his men were returned to their families, no knowledge of how their captain had saved them. Valen reported his failure and also submitted his resignation from his position and post, leaving the kingdom and started traveling the world, his mind filled with thoughts and questions, as everything he was taught and believed seemed to be challenged.

    Weapon:

    • Obsidian Hands– Special gloves made by sewing together metal plates to give full flexibility. The palms are exposed and the tips of the index, middle, and thumb end in talons.

    Skills:

    • Soul Construct (Expert) – Creates nigh indestructible material objects by molding the soul using Cantus magic. Each construct has its own special properties. Some require time before repeated casting.

      • Sál Mækir– Medium length blades that extend from both his hands. They have a very sharp edge and light. They can remain constant for prolonged amounts of time on minimal anima usage.
      • Sál Sverð – A strong and sharp sword. It only lasts a moment (2 turn cycles at the most), but when using this construct, the enhancement “Shadow Step” is increased in power, allowing the user to move longer distances in short bursts. 5 turn cycles are required before another casting of this spell.
      • Bjórr Pynda – Thick chains of soul that moves by the caster’s will. If successfully binds an opponent, it not only restrains movement but it disrupts the flow of anima, weakening spells cast and ongoing for the next three turns. Ten turn cycles need to pass before this skill can be cast again, including the turn it was cast.
      • Tré Skjǫldr – Three kite shields form, circling around the caster. They rebound physical strikes and block magical attacks. They remain around for a while (two turn cycles following the turn it was cast) before fading and require another three turns before casting again.
      • Seeking Blades - By separating up to seven fragments of soul, the caster manipulates them remotely, turning them into seven long swords and moving them to strike the enemy. Requires two turn cycles before repeated casting.

    • Restoration (Competent): Evangeline – A self-inflicted purging spell. Caster meditates, taking a turn to cleanse his body of impurities. This spell negates the effects of poisons, illness, curses, and lingering enemy magic effects.

    • Shadow Step – A magical enhancement that gives the ability to move blindingly fast in short bursts in linear directions.

    • Summon Familiar (Expert) – Using a pendant as a medium, user creates a temporal body of anima and channels in a contracted spirit. If body sustains enough damage, the familiar will be dispelled. It requires a fairly moderate amount of anima to summon this familiar.
    Baltheus Endomyne:

[*] Skilled Fighter [Intermediate] – A young soldier who’s risen to the ranks of captain for his performance in battle. Well adept in combat, battle tactics, and warfare.

Allusion: The Learned Man from Aesop’s fable The Shadow

    Incantus:

    • Name: Fable
    • Apparent gender: Male
    • Appearance: Takes the form of its contractor’s shadow. How it manages this is weird and unclear. It can even walk independently of its contractor as a shadow if it desired.
    • Demeanor: Rather aloof and mysterious. It never has clear objectives and just seems to enjoy the ride.
    • Special Powers: N/A
    • Strengths/Weaknesses:
    • Mantra: Valen Moroqueth CHBk54c
