Risus: Class Clown Empty Risus: Class Clown

    Name: Risus
    Gender: Female
    Age: 24

    Race: Walpurgis (Purged)
    Citizenship: Saoirse

    Occupation: Crime

Appearance: Even at a glance, there is something immediately odd about Risus. There is an overt deliberateness to even her smallest movements, almost like she’s forcing herself. Despite this, there seems to be a lack of tension in her body and her movements are often exaggerated. This odd clash tends to be the first thing one would notice. After that, though, more oddities present themselves.

There are several series of small scars that dance lightly across Risus’ face, all following specific patterns. Some are more healed than others. Worse yet, there are odd discolorations that often meet near these scars. Her eyes are two different colors, with the right being an icy blue and the left being an inky black. Her hair is kept fairly long and, while originally black, it graying at an alarming rate.

She is fairly average in height and has a lithe build to her. As for her body itself, it suffers from the same scars as her face. The discoloration and imperfections are much more noticeable around her arms and hands specifically. She tends to cover all this up, though, with heavy clothing and makeup. She has a habit of dressing up like a harlequin, with white makeup covering her face as well as heavy black designs around her eyes and lips. While eye catching, it often helps cover up the scars and imperfections years of blood alchemy has caused.

Personality: On the first meeting, it’s always hard to take Risus seriously. She is goofy and spaces out easily. She’s always more interested in just having a good time rather than taking anything seriously. She acts the fool quite well, and she does it precisely so that her conversational partner will underestimate her.

All in all, her interactions vary depending on what she wants. In her usual day to day, she’s cheery, friendly and completely demented. She enjoys getting rises out of people. Be it frustration, fear, or laughter. Anything is okay really, but in the end, as long as she’s having fun, she doesn’t really care.

She’s a naturally selfish person, willing to stomp on other people so long as it services her. She never does it out of malice, she’s simply looking out for herself while having the most fun she can have. After having spent years in an isolated cell, just waiting for the next experiment, she found herself almost being drunk on excitement. Always seeking the next wildest thing she can think of.

Risus is someone who is endlessly curious. She wants to know every secret the world has to offer when it comes to science and magic. She’s quite good at rationalizing any number of horrible things she might do in her search for this knowledge. She’s always fascinated by the world around her and tackles most tasks with a certain amount of excitability. She has a soft spot for the Expiate oddly enough and tends to try and cause them as little trouble as possible.

Though, with her list of crimes, that might be pretty difficult.

Currently, she wants to regain the skill she’d developed as a cantus user and, eventually, free her master from whatever prison she ended up in. (or find a necromance to raise her from the dead if need be)

    History:
Risus is what happens when an odd individual lands in strange circumstances. From her earliest memories, Risus only remembers being the servant of a blood alchemist, an eccentric one at that. She was subject to many experiments under the alchemist and nearly died from them several times. Oddly enough, she was absolutely enthralled by these experiments and asked so many questions that the alchemist actually considered sewing her mouth shut. In the end, the experiments on her came to an end as the alchemist instead saw the beginnings of a kindred spirit in the nameless child. At 12, she was finally dubbed Risus and began to actively assist in different tests on other subjects. She would also be sent to nearby towns on “errands” By 15 her list of “errands” involved theft, kidnapping, several counts of larceny and a couple counts of arson.

She was having the time of her life, and never thought it would end. Of course, if you piss off the authorities enough, they’re likely to make an effort to find you. When she saw them knocking on their door, Risus was quick with a contingency. Blend in with the subjects of course! She played the part of a poor experimentee, and with the years of blood alchemy she’d been subjected to, she certainly looked the part.

She was taken in by the Expiate, promptly purged (much to her dismay), then sent to a rehabilitation facility. After roughly six months of terrorizing the patients and staff there, she made an oddly well coordinated escape and has been causing trouble in different parts of Esterelf ever since. She’s caused more than a few disasters simply trying to get her power back. With Carta being such a different beast than cantus, she’s been struggling to learn a different style of blood alchemy with whatever knowledge she can gleam from tomes or teachers. It’s been a slow and almost agonizing process, but she’s learning quickly.

In her eyes, she’ll be back to her peak in no time.

Weapon: Risus’ weapon is her amazing personality of course...And the several knives she keeps on her person at all times.  While most of them are ordinary throwing knifes, some have hidden capsules within them, filled to the brim with blood.

    Skills:

    • Knife Throwing Expert: Being without magic for so long, Risus realised she needed other skills to rely on. Of course she picked knife throwing. She’s so good at this point she can throw several at once.

    • Sleight of Hand Beginner: One thing that came with knife throwing was a certain amount of hand dexterity. She bounced off that and began to figure out fun tricks she could pull on people without them even knowing. Unfortunately, she’s really just started working on this skill and can really only do small party tricks.

    • Acrobatics Expert: Another lesson she’s learned, mobility is important. With the little blood alchemy she knows, she’s altered, as well as trained, her body to give her an edge in that department. While not being strong, she’s incredibly flexible and agile. At this point, she can gracefully dance across a battlefield, avoiding attacks left and right while setting up small counter attacks for herself.

    • Blood Alchemy Intermediate: While Risus’ knowledge of blood alchemy is quite vast, her practical application of it in cartic form is quite shaky. She’s not used to the almost ritualistic nature of carta and sometimes catches herself falling back on habits she’d learned as a cantus mage. Still, she’s gaining knowledge at an incredible rate and hopes to be a master within a few years.

Her casting takes the form of magic circles that appear in the area she’s casting her spell. Normally, she’ll use any blood available to form the circles themselves, purely to scare her enemies. For more subtler applications, she makes simple glyphs that briefly appear around her. If she can though, she always goes for the dramatic flair.

-Blood Manipulation: One of the first things Risus began to practice was how to manipulate blood itself. Currently, she can manipulate any blood she sees, though with a much weaker effect the farther it is away from her. At close range, she can form it into shapes or freeze it into solid objects. The more blood in one spot, the easier it is for her to manipulate. After about 20 feet, it is incredibly hard for her to do anything with blood and she might as well just start throwing knives.

-Body Manipulation:  Another thing she learned ASAP, was the ability to exchange and alter different body parts. She has a deep understanding of human and enkidu body structure and can do amazing things so long as she has enough time. Unfortunately this is next to useless in fights as her target needs to be stationary for a large amount of time. She can do quick patch ups on herself should she need to, but again, she needs time. Rushing might end up doing more harm than good in the end.

-Internal Control: Risus has figured out how to control the speed of her blood flow. While it takes some concentration, she can quicken or slow her pulse. She can speed up clotting processes or even nullifying clotting entirely in favor of more blood on the battlefield.

Strengths/Weaknesses: Risus’ biggest strength is her cleverness in a fight. While she’s not the strongest, she always finds that there’s always ways to turn a battle in your favor. She’s dangerous at a distance due to her knife skills, but she can handle a close battle with the blood alchemy she’s learned thus far. Getting injured can actually make her more dangerous if she starts bleeding. Of course, this danger also applies to her. She also has little to no pride, and is fine with begging and crying if it makes her opponent even hesitate for a moment. She’ll do literally anything to get an edge in a fight, and that can make her quite the dangerous opponent.

Due to the patched together nature of Risus, her own body can fail her at the worst times. A weak tendon snaps, a shoddily placed finger pops off, a brittle bone breaks. She’s adaptable, but if she can't walk she’s in quite a lot of trouble. Another weakness is the nature of blood alchemy. She only has so much blood to draw from, so if she runs out of the stockpile she keeps and has to use blood from her own body, she can quickly use too much and pass out.
