Day 03: The Masquerade Ball; Ceremony Proper [Open]

Post by Lilac on Tue Jul 17, 2018 4:47 am

Takes place right after The Masquerade Ball: Pre-Ceremony

In the grand square of Estermount, people had gathered for the masquerade ball. Stalls serving all sorts of foods from grilled meats and veggies to fresh fruits in cream to pastries and other street delights lined the roads leading to the square. People of young and old, poor and noble blood, had gathered at the square (albeit with different sections to stay in) to dance and dine before the formal closing ceremony of the Unanimity Fair began. After a few moments, an announcer had come to the platform at the far end of the square in front of the city hall where a large gazebo had been set up for the nobles and royals who would be attending. While the nobles occupied their seats, the long table dedicated to the rulers remained empty. The announcer called everyone's attention to say the ceremony would be starting soon and that everyone needed to start settling down. Commoners would be given time to gather food and sit at the many tables that surrounded the squares and the nearby streets. Loud and boisterous merrymaking had settled into a subtle buzz, and people patiently waited as the man in the green suit and coat with the emerald cat mask once again appeared on the stage. He would start looking around to spot if everyone had settled down, giving a few solid minutes while the band still played.

Cassima was enjoying the ball so far and it was still her first day in this town, thanks to the kindly young woman who had given her a mask, she can finally fit in with everyone at the ball. Well Cassima herself bought the mask but the woman still helped Cassima fit in with the ball, and now it seemed like the ceremony was about to begin, and Cassima, who had reached the square, was going to find a place to sit down.

"Let's see." Cassima looked around, hoping to find a seat before the ceremony begins and she'll be looked at by everyone in the ceremony for not finding a place to sit and watch the ceremony. "Uhh, uhh!" She began to panic as she looked around for a free seat to sit down.

Because she just saw someone on the stage, indicating that the ceremony was about to finally begin.

    [color:f188=#fe0]"Huh... where did she go?"

That was what Goibniu asked himself, as the sudden movement of the crowd caused him to get separated from the woman he was dancing with. Just a few moments ago, an announced made himself appear, telling all visitants to take a seat, as the ceremony would properly start soon. People wanted to either get food and a seat, or just get a seat, and for someone like Goibniu, his stomach didn't demand nurture at the moment, so finding a place to sit down became his top priority. Luckily, there was an empty table that was available for him to use, so he went straight towards it.

However, someone else was not as lucky. "Darn... They are getting occupied." Higini saw how, by the seconds, any unfilled tables began getting filled, and every time he headed towards one, it would suddenly get occupied. Even if it was just by one person, he felt rather ambivalent about it, as he felt awkward trying to ask someone to allow him to sit. Sadly, that prospect became more apparent, as the number of empty tables diminished. He had no option but to ask someone, and as he quickly scanned the area, he noticed a table with only a woman with a rather strange outfit, like she just burst into the ceremony. He went to approach her, a meek look in his eyes. "Uum... Excuse me, could I sit in this table as well?" He asked Cassima, rubbing his hands nervously.

Eun pouted and stopped dancing as the announcer interrupted the music, instructing everyone to settle down. Well, at least she had gotten to have some fun. Now it was time to eat and watch the show! After grabbing a place and filling it with as much delicious-looking food as she could, she scanned around for an empty seat. Unfortunately, due to her appetite, she was unable to find one, and was left wandering the area, finding nothing but full tables.

It certainly didn't help that she overlooked about half of them because she kept shifting her eyes down towards her plate to eat. If she wasn't able to find an empty chair soon, she'd either have to find an empty enough area to sit on the floor, or get creative and find a wall or nearby roof to climb up on. Which didn't sound like such a bad idea if she wasn't sure she'd be spotted in an instant.

Maia didn't realize how hectic things would become. People were scrambling to grab a plate of food and a place to sit. Maia was feeling slightly disoriented by the experience, and she learned that trying to balance a plate of food while people bump into you was actually quite hard. It didn't help that she was still thinking about the man she had danced with. The familiarity of his words and personality, his compliments. Maia didn't really know if she did the right thing by essentially running away. There was that part of her that wanted to search for him in the crowds, but she decided it was for the best that they didn't see each other again. It would save them both heartbreak when he realized that she was a Walpurgis. What some would consider a bomb ready for the spark to set it off. Maia realized at a young age that people like her don't get their happy ending with their soulmate.

Letting her depressing thoughts run wild in her head, she spotted a table with a few empty seats. She quickly darted over and placed her plate down, and sat in one of the empty seats. She was slightly nervous at the fact that a stranger a would probably sit next to her, but as long as she kept her seal covered, it should be fine. Who knows, maybe she would make a new friend tonight?

The brief frantic scramble of ball attendees was soon met with a somber lull as everyone finished getting their foods and seats. Where the nobles were, they had no scrambling to do, of course, as servers had arrived in order to give them their meals as they engaged in light chatter and fanned themselves from the heat generated by the dense crowd and summer air.

The announcer on the stage looked around making sure everyone was ready for the procession of the event. He then smiled widely, taking a Cartic mark of amplification and raising it to the emerald on his broach. As he cleared his throat, his voice would sound much louder.

"Ladies and gentleman!" he said cheerfully. "First and foremost, I would like to thank you for coming to the most important part of the Unanimity Fair: the Renewal Ceremony!"

His exclamation would be met with quiet, but enthusiastic applause. Smiling even wider, he started walking along the stage, casually talking as he did.

"As you all know, the prosperity of Esterelf wouldn't have been possible without the union of the five Great Nations," he said. "In fact, these nations barely existed. Several hundred years ago, Esterelf was far from the bustling civilization it is now today. Mankind lived divided. Walpurgis dictated over humans in divided kingdoms, humans without Cantus lived as nomads in wild lands with Incantus and Moira. It would not be until the Great Magus War that mankind would stand together against Walpurgis oppressors and the Cantic forces that had made their lives miserable for centuries!"

From the crowd, some commoners would cheer or raise their glasses and tankards. The man chuckled.

"We all know that in the end, mankind won because we united," he said. "New kingdoms would form, indeed, and create the Great Five Nations, but instead of being once again divided by competition and conflict, the Five Nations vowed to aid one another in their time of need, to fight against Cantic dangers and potential Walpurgis uprisings, and make Esterelf prosper as a whole. And that night is celebrated tonight, as it is, yearly with our great leaders renewing their vows of unanimity and brotherhood."

Looking to the left of the stage, the man would raise one hand. The street lamps infused with Cartic marks would dim as the platform itself lit with multiple bright lights.

"And now...we welcome these great leaders."

The lights would would then raise themselves to the tall tower behind the stage where a wide balcony was. Usually, this was where the city mayor would talk, but now it was occupied by several ornately-dressed individuals. One was a tall man wearing a robe, a cape, and a crown. His golden hair was long and his had a neatly trimmed beard. His azure eyes seemed to penetrate when they locked with an individual's. He had an aura of authority, but also gentleness to him, as he stood firmly but smiled softly to the crowd.

Next to him were several other leaders, one being the vibrantly red-haired Prime Minister of Aldmerrow, a regal woman wearing a long dark blue robe embroidered with silver. Her gray eyes watched quietly behind her gold-rimmed lenses. Unlike the man in front of her who waved heartily, she merely smiled and nodded at everyone in acknowledgement.

The third individual wore far more contemporary clothing. Dressed in a formal military outfit with golden medals as well as a sash, this next one was far younger than than the other two with bleach hair trimmed in a crew cut and bright green eyes. He did not smile like the other two, but silently gazed with his hands behind his back.

The fourth individual who was a little behind the third and towards the left edge had attire that seemed to be dressed a little more out-of-the-region than the others. The man had olive-colored skin and wore a vibrant orange kaftan trimmed with gold and an ornate large headdress. Like the first figure, he smiled happily and waved, but with a more casual and jolly enthusiasm.

The last figure near the very back and on the right edge was partially blocked from the light from the figures in front of her. Much shorter and thinner, she was the only one different as she seemed to wear a long white veil that covered her face and gown while a circlet was propped with wings on her head. One couldn't make out her face from the crowd and the only discernible thing where her delicately gloved hands.

The crowd would cheer upon seeing them, and soon they would fade back into the balcony only to start coming down one by one and being greeted on stage. The Expiate officers, at this point, were lined near the stage, keeping a good distance from the crowds' tables. One by one, the figures would be disappear and appear at the bottom where a special and elevated table stood next to a large torch.

The first one introduced was the elderly woman in blue, who would arrive at the stage unaccompanied and be introduced as Aldmerrow's very own Prime Minister, Alannis Crowe. The locals would cheer loudly for her as she took a small bow and sat at the table.

The next to be introduced, was King Leone of Saoirse, who was the man in the robe with golden hair. He'd be escorted along the path by the Saoirisian guard, each who wore the Golden Rose emblem. As Leone was seated, the guards would retreat and standby.

The next introduced would be the current presiding consul of Stahlmin. While normally there were two consuls, only the one who was in turn for the month would be able to go to the Unanimity Fair, and this was none other than the young but successful Lysander Roth. He had been escorted by a small ensemble of Stahlminian military wearing their gray outfits and carrying those fancy modern rifles the other countries were not that used to.

The fourth, the Sultan of Saadedge, came to the stage not accompanied by any strict guard, but ornately dressed entertainers that sprinkled the ground with sparkling dust and petals as festive Saad music played. He'd laugh merrily and make a grand bow as he reached the stage and took his seat.

For the last event, there was a sudden silence as the lights dimmed. As the announcer mentioned the next name, every held their breath in anticipation.

"And our last great leader--and the youngest at that--is none other than the immaculate and ever beautiful princess of the Kingdom of Eisleyn. Her royal highness, Princess Eala of the Snow."

The door at the edge of the tower would open as the lights went dark and pointed at it. The figure in the veil appeared, tiny enchanted snowflakes glittering over her long veil that covered her body. People gasped and "awed" as she walked forward, lifting her veil and revealing a soft pale face with entrancing violet eyes that lowered themselves to the ground. Her curly maroon hair framed her face in a fashionable bob, and while she wore no makeup, her cheeks were tinged with a warm blush and her lips were a light pink. She wore a stoic expression, but as her veil lifted, people could only gasp more at her gentle and almost ethereal beauty.

As she stepped forward, her court would arrive to escort her to the stage.

Shortly behind the princess was a tall, lengthy figure. He wore elegant white garbs with blue and purple accents. On his shoulders were broad plates giving him an imposing stature with his tall pointed cap, his face wrapped in scarves and a cowl. With each step who took in his plated boots, he tapped the floor with the end of his silver staff, the crescent moon ornament at the top glimmering in the light. All that can be be discerned of his physical features are his silver eyes and the whispers of white hair that poked out of his scarf.

Winters Endymon, the archmage of Eisleyn. Each kingdom has one, but Winters is one of the most distinguished. People accounted that he has been in service of the royal court for three generations. His cartic magic research has innovated the field and his personal skills are tantamount to his wizened age. It is said he mastered a thousand spells and commands nature himself.

Behind his left shoulder, a man in military dress followed closely after. He wore a decorated white military jacket with a sky-blue dress shirt and white dress pants tucked into leather high-boots. His long, triangular face and soft features made for a handsome figure. His long silver hair with platinum accents was as smooth and slowing as a beautiful woman's. At his side, resting in a decorated scabbard was a sword with a bejeweled handle. The man smelled of flowers and roses, his steps were light, elegant, but steady.

The man who displayed full regalia was Ser Duke Charmr, Archknight of the Eisleyn empire. The Charmr family come from a long line of nobles in service of the kingdom. Ser Duke was the first to pursue a military career and has esteemed himself as the princess's personal guard, military adviser, first general, captain of the guard, and.... royal executioner.

And next to him a long scrawny person, garbed head to toe in checkered flannel. One his head was a tophat a yard high, a smiling mask on his face. Each skip and hop he made was accompanied by the jingle of bells. Most people would not count the royal jester as part of their court.... but the princess isn't most people.

"Aha a seat!" Cassima found her victory by sitting on a seat, that just so happened to be beside where Maia was sitting. She turned and waved politely to the woman. "Oh, good evening, I didn't see you there, are you enjoying this wonderful event like everyone else?" She asked Maia.

She turned upon the arrival of another person who asked if the seat beside Cassima was free, Cassima tapped the seat. "Of course, it is not my seat to give, but it is yours. Please, I insist that you sit beside us." Cassima invited the man to sit before turning towards the stage.

Where the ceremony speech had begun the leaders of the five nations were introduced, Cassima didn't really listen that much of the speech, as she was just glad that she had made it to the event on her first day here. However upon seeing Princess Eala being introduced, Cassima began to look annoyed and a heavy sigh escape from under her breath. "I didn't know something rotten was brought to this event." Cassima bitterly muttered, referring to the princess.

She remained quiet and looked away at the stage, she would rather get to know more about Maia and Higini. "So." Cassima quietly whispered to the two while the ceremony was still going.

"Who would like to introduce themselves first, now that were sitting together." She smiled, wanting to think of something else, other then that wretched princess.

Goibniu didn't get any new companions, but it didn't matter, as he was more than comfy waiting for the ceremony to start. Higini on the other hand, was accepted by Cassima, who was seemingly with another person as well. Before he could say anything however, the announcer spoke up, prompting him to sit down already. As all would expect, the introduction recounted the why and how of the Unanimity Fair, about how the Great Magus War allowed humans to unify and combat the thread of Walpurgis.

For Goibniu, this made him smile with pride, even if he himself was not human. The idea of people setting aside their differences and working towards a common cause for the sake of a better life was something he greatly admired, and due to his own entanglement, the thought of evil and nefarious Walpurgis getting truncated by justice and righteousness couldn't be any sweeter. Higini on the other had, felt terribly conflicted about it. He too felt that the unification was something great, and he won't deny that the Walpurgis that were being bad deserved it, but this also caused people to deem anyone even vaguely connected with Cantus magic as the enemy, including he Walpurgis that aren't bad, such as his closest friend, whom he believes right now is still wandering Esterelf for an optimal cure for her condition, a way that guarantees her return to humanity, and the complete annihilation of her Incantus.

Soon enough, the leaders eventually made an appearance. Goibniu himself felt even prouder of the Stahlmin representation, as even the guards were equipped with fine armament that fitted their country of origin. As of course, Higini couldn't help but let out a look of surprise as the Princess was unveiled, awed by the display. But she was not alone, as soon enough the Archmage, Archknight and... the jester of Eisleyn also made an appearance. However, his attention changed to Cassima, as she made a negative comment about the Princess, which made Higini wonder if he should perhaps hush her so that she doesn't get in trouble.

But that would be useless, as she was seemingly aiming to talk to them afterwards. "Uuuh..." He let out, looking between Cassima and Maia, as he fixed his mask. "Should we, do that? Isn't the masquerade still going on?"

As the introduction of the leaders began, Eun looked around before quickly ducking down and covering her hair and ears with her cloak. She needed to find a seat, and fast, or else things would really get awkward. She half listened as each of the leaders were introduced, slowly worming her way through the tables, thankful that everyone's eyes were glued to the ceremony. Eventually she finally found an empty table, and she quickly flung herself into one of the chairs.

Something something needle in a haystack popped into her head, but she shook that aside as she looked up at each of the leaders, impressed by most, but confused as to the odd man behind the last one. Why the hell was he there? Maybe that lady had weird tastes. Either way, Eun could finally breathe a sigh of relief before looking back at the table she had found... which turned out not to be empty after all. Her lone companion sat staring at the leaders, a pair of horns jutting from his head. Another Enkidu.

Eun made no attempts to get the man's attention, for fear of interrupting the ceremony, but she did lower her cloak to reveal her ears. Her white fox mask stayed on, though, hiding an excited smile as she turned her head back towards the main event.
