The same trick that he used to swipe her apple was also being used to travel at a fantastic rate. He was simply rushing headlong on hands and feet like a loping beast with the apple in his mouth. Every time he reached the edge of one roof, a portal was waiting for him and its destination was the edge of another two or three buildings over

In this way he had left the suspicious lady far behind and was gaining ground by the second, apple still in his mouth.

From below, the sending would caw down at Liseran, signalling it could see the feral child. Hearing this, Liseran fastened her cloak, casting a glyph to shoot her into the air and onto the rooftops. Seeing the boy's adept use of portals was surprising, and it made her wonder how he had learned such abilities. Still, if he was fleeing at this pace, he was going to disappear for good.

Liseran had to be crafty. If he saw her, he was going to flee even more. Knowing this, she cast a spell of temporary invisibility and discreetly used her glyps trying to pick up pace, but keep the distance between them so he didn't look behind. She'd have to keep an eye, though, and she couldn't stay invisible too long lest she'd just drain her stones. Instead, she needed to observe and figure out where he was going.

Running and blinking into and out of other footholds, not more than once, he seemed to fall off the side, perhaps on accident, and maybe on purpose. But the feral child's stamina finally hit its limits as it found an endpoint of his sprinting.

There was a bell tower, and in a quiet corner of it he had formed a crude sort of hideut. It was there that he huddled up among his ill-gotten goods and started to gnaw away at the apple in his hands.

With her Crabbit familiar leading the way, Liseran rushed from roof to roof under her enchantment. She was running out of stores, not being used to having to chase someone for the amount of time that she had, but came at last to the bell tower. The Crabbit familiar appeared in front of her, making silent caws before dissipating into wisps of former marks and vanishing. Removing her spell, she glanced around and tried to see where he was. She tried to quietly sneak around any turn corners and saw him surrounded by his stash of meats and goodies.

Seeing this, Liseran thought about how to proceed. Outright attacking him was going to scare him off, but it was hard to make any moves without him noticing at all. Liseran dug into her pocket and pulled out one last good she had thanks to Avarin. It wasn't by any means large. In fact, it was just a chocolate truffle wrapped in fake gold foil. Hovering her bell slowly over it, a mark would form. Afterwards, she hid again and tossed the round truffle onto the ground, hoping it would roll within the boy's line of sight.
