Despite wearing boots, Kassandra was very familiar with the irregular terrain that was the forest's soil, which meant traversing the area with the group a breeze for her. Then again, it's not like it was something she liked, as she was used to hunting alone, or with a tiny squad, and this was already a sizable group in her opinion. Having to wait for Koga to tap into his bestial side as he followed the trail, and having that professor lagging begin were things that peeved her, but it was already too late to back down. And after a while, the enkidu inquired them about their abilities.

"I can use melee weapons fairly well, but I have much more expertise with swords, one and two handed. I also know quite a bit about survival in the wilderness, in terms of hunting and camping." Though, she hoped they wouldn't have to resort to that, otherwise setting up places to rest and such would be slightly more tedious with the amount of people present. Of course, that wasn't all she could do, and Kassandra knew it fairly well. To the point that anyone paying attention would notice the inside of her cloak move in directions that don't coincide with her own movement, as if there was something underneath it. She looked down on it with a scowl, and the irregular movement ceased.

"Fleeing, or they could have also become prey of the beasts." She added, her eye turning side to side.

Koga didn't seem to take notice of Eun's attempt to hand him the notebook. He'd suddenly started crouching low to the ground, focused on his tracking. Instead, the village girl Emily took the book and after reading it quickly, handed it back to Eun with a smile. She lowered her face to Koga's triangular ear and whispered what seemed to be the message to him before standing back up.

The enkidu hunter stopped suddenly, raising his clawed arm in a gesture for the rest to do the same. He took a sniff of the ground and looked ahead of them.

"Edger," Koga whispered in a low tone. As if out of nowhere, the professor seemed to suddenly get to Koga's side with a single hop. Koga raised his nose to the air and sniffed it before giving Edger a side glance and a nod.

The scholar pulled out his book and opened to a page. He murmured something as his fingers traced something on the page. Runes seemed to float from the page and circled each other in the air above his head. They weaved together and formed the shape of some sort of bird. Edger gestured in the direction Koga was glaring at and the bird went flying into the forest.

The moment the bird was out of sight, Koga's left arm went to the handle of his large sword, pulling it off his back with a tug.

"Cub, Doll," Koga called out in a low tone. He seemed to be referring to Mirai and Eun, "Cover each other and flank its left. Cub, aim for the weak spots with your spear while Doll attacks it. I'll occupy it from the front."

Ignoring the one-syllable codenames, the enkidu hunter seemed to have formulated a solid formation based on what he's been told of everyone's abilities.

"Witch, flank the right," he continued without pause. "Emily, Edger, you know your roles. Everyone be ready to adapt."

The Professor and village girl gave firm nods to confirm. Edger pulled up his rifle and stepped a distance back, making plenty of room before taking a knee and leveling his gun. Emily unsheathed her blade and stood just a little bit behind Koga. She held her weapon to the side in one hand, but the handle suggested it can be held in two. The blade itself was similar to a machete, but the back seemed denser and stronger and it was serrated close to the guard.

There seemed to be a tense moment of waiting with seemingly nothing occurring. The forest was oddly silent. Then Edger's avian sender flew back towards them from the forest and the next second, a much larger bird appeared.

The monster was as tall as a bear. It kicked aside trees as if they were twigs. Its screech was like the pained deaththroes of a tortured animal. And most of all, it was prominently... poultry.

The main body of the chimera resembled a grotesquely large chicken, possibly a rooster. Its beak was a big elongated and crooked and it had the head of a goat growing out of its chest, but it was definitely a farmbird. Its legs were cloven and covered in wool just like a goat. From its plumage of tail feathers sprouted a ten foot green serpent. The bird (of prey?)'s head sprouted a pair of large curved horns.

The chimera roared at the group with a sound that was the fusion of a hiss and the loud bleats of a mountain goat. Without missing a beat, Koga leaped forward and swung his weapon. The large blade smacked against the chimera's poultry head, batting it away, yet the edge was unable to damage. The beast let out a screech but was cut off as the Enkidu whacked it with a flurry of hacks and slashes, his oversized sword swinging faster than it would in the hands of a normal person. His relentless flurry seemed enough to distract the beast from anything else.

Meanwhile, the village girl Emily circled around the beast. The serpent tail seemed to notice her lashed. With a single arm and a quick step, the young girl parried aside the serpent's lunge. The snake swerved around and lashed again. Emily gripped her sword in both hands and with a powerful swing, slashed as the nose and batted it to the side, stepping around it. By the end she got completely behind the chimera. The snake head swerved back and lashed. Emily raised her sword with both hands and the jaws of serpent bit onto the weapon. The village girl wrestled with the serpent head, pushing with a show of strength contrasting with her thin frame.

Lastly, Edger seemed to be calmly waiting. His rifle was leveled steadily, his eyes focused behind his spectacles, waiting for a clear opening.

Eun pouted when Koga ignored her, but her face quickly turned to surprise as Emily grabbed her journal, relayed the message, and then returned it to her. Well, apparently someone was on her side. As the enkidu raised his arm, though, Eun quickly took out her weapon and extended it into a spear. That gesture could only mean one thing, and as he began giving orders, it was confirmed.

She hated being referred to as 'Cub,' though her complaints would have to wait. Her ears also twitched when he called Kass 'Witch,' but after a brief moment of though, realized it suited her personality perfectly. There was no way a Walpurgis would actually join them... right?

Either way, at Mirai's nod, Eun followed her around to the left side. Just as they got into position, the beast emerged, and Koga began his assault. Emily began dancing around towards the back, parrying and battling off the snake, but despite her wish to help the girl, Eun had been given her role, so she was going to see it through. A quick scan of the creature's body gave her just what she was looking for; a small portion of muscle exposed through a tear in the creature's body. Emily began grappling with the snake, so as soon as the next blow from Koga landed on the beast, Eun used the opportunity to quickly thrust her spear directly at the exposed flesh.

Witch? There was a brief moment where Kassandra honestly wondered if she was referring to someone else, like Emily. But once Koga called out for everyone else, it was made clear by process of elimination that he was meaning her. If it wasn't because his sights were focused on something else, he'd have noticed her glaring at him with her one eye. Letting out a grunt, she took the positions she was assigned, and waited for whatever to happen.

As a large image appeared overhead, she moved her cloak aside and drew her blade, ready for when the beast goes down. And sure enough, this was one of he beasts they needed to confront. Koga already went ahead to launch a full frontal assault, as Eun and Emily began focusing on the serpent-tail, leaving the chimera exposed to anything. For a moment she eyed the legs, and wondered if the beast had enough balance to stand on one leg. So without wasting any second, she took the chance of all it's defenses being busy to dash towards the creature. She would lunge her sword towards the right leg and try to press it deep, but she didn't know how sturdy they would be, so instead she tried a different approach, and delivered a horizontal slash, attempting to cut it's leg clean off.

The chimera let out a raged squawk as it received blow after blow. Eun's spear struck true. There was a patch of exposed muscle on the back of the chimera's goat leg which bled profusely as it was pierced by the young girl's weapon.

Kassandra however did not get good results whacking at the other side. Her sword would slide against the fur of the leg as if they were iron. The goat head growing out of the monster's chest turned towards where Kassandra was. The goat leg shot up fast as an arrow, aimming its cloven hoof towards the girl's chest.

Emily continued wrestling against the serpent tail. Her footing slid just a little bit. The snake let go of her sword and reared back. With a dry hack it spat out a ball of fire towards her. Emily jumped to the side. The hem of her dress was singed but it seemed she narrowly avoided the fire as it exploded against the ground a few feet back. The serpent head averted its eyes to the side towards Eun and Mirai. It hacked out another ball of fire aimed towards them.

Emily let out a cry, dashing forward and making swift slashes at the serpent tail's long body. Her movements with her swords seemed to resembled Koga's technique greatly.

The serpent returned its attention to the girl. Emily glared back at it sternly. The snake let out another hack but this time no fire came out. It shook its head confusingly for a moment before Emily clicked a switch on her weapon. She lashed out with it and the blade segmented into fractions connected by a chain, whipping around the serpent head like a lasso. The serpent pulled back and the village girl pulled back.

Koga growled tauntingly at the chicken head who squawked in frustration, looking to its left and right angrily. It reared its head back and slammed down. The enkidu hunter leapt back just as the beak drilled into the ground effortlessly. He raised his weapon high and brought the blade down only for the chimera to pulled back its head before the edge connected. With his weapon down the monster reared its head again, but with a loud bang its left eye gushed blood.

Edger reached back from where he was crouched and pulled a metal capsule from his pack, sliding it into his rifle from the slot on the side. He pulled back and lever and leveled the gun again.

"Koga!" he called out "Ready your weapon!"

The enkidu hunter looked over his shoulder briefly and nodded. He gripped his weapon tight The Slots opened from the back of his weapon which blew out gushes of steam. The edge of the sword split in half, opening half an inch as a series of small curved blades popped out, running along the edge. The weapon seemed to rumble before letting out a shrill shriek. The curved blades moved along the edge rapidly, buzzing like a horde of bees as they spun in a dangerous rotation.

Waiting for Eun's strike, Mirai was swift to get into position the moment the beast made out a cry and the area showed an opening. Quickly, Mirai retrieved one of the silver balls in her pocket with a blue ring around it. It would enlarge in her hands and she'd throw it at the ground at the monster's feet, summoning forth ice shards that would try and keep its grasp at the feet. If successful, she would charge and try to charge with her parasol sword in the opening the spear had left.

Eun jumped back from the chimera after piercing its leg with her spear, a grin on her face as she twirled the spear once to throw off any loose blood before readying it and assessing the situation again. She noticed Emily slip and become the target of a ball of fire from the serpent's mouth, but before she could move to try and assist the girl, another was shot towards her. She was barely able to jump in time to avoid it, but as it exploded against the ground, the shock of the impact knocked her prone, a few embers burning at the lower half of her pant legs and tail. She swatted them away in a frenzy, only just recovering in time to watch ice burst at the chimera's feet. She quickly jumped back to her feet, but unlike Mirai, she wouldn't wait to see if the ice successfully held; she brought her spear over her head and ran forward in an attempt to pierce the same spot as before, a few moments after Mirai if the girl also decided to charge.

Ow. If the Chimera's leg were to be something metallic, a loud clank would shake Kassandra's very core due to the strength she placed on her swing. But even if the creature was purely organic, the attack didn't do anything at all, causing her to curse under her breath, as out of the corner of her eye, she saw movement coming from said legs. Out of reflex, she pushed her body back, with the fast clover barely reaching her. Of course, such an abrupt movement caused her to stagger regardless, her own legs scrambling before she regained her composure, inadvertently gaining a bit of distance between the Chimera and her.

That was close. Dangerously close. If she wasn't careful enough, she might not be as lucky for the rest of the battle.

"You could try-" "Hush, beast." And it was now when he decided to rear his ugly head. Metaphorically speaking, as his voice came to her like a whisper, as if his very snout was next to her ear, despite the fact that he was not visible for anyone to see. He offered his help, he offered her the power to counter the Chimera's savage nature, but she didn't want it, relying on him was not something she was very keen on. Plus, she wasn't alone, how would the rest of the team react if they were to see a giant flame wolf come out from behind her? Certainly not good. And even with her decline, his only reply was a low, malevolent chuckle, before his presence was cleared from Kassandra's mind. Was he gonna appear later? Not even she could tell, Trebax was always a fan of chaos, after all.

As her eye was set on the battle, she saw that Eun was luckier than her, her own attack proving a success. Emily was holding her own, and so was Koga, but it was Edger's sudden warning that made her see that these three had more up their sleeve: Their weapons transformed. Emily's sword became a whip, and Koga's sword became... A sword with curved blades attached to it? She knew of sophisticated weapons, but this made her wonder if this would only become cumbersome later on. It didn't escape her perception that Mirai threw what appeared to be small marbles at the beast's feet, and while she didn't know exactly what they were, instinct told her that it would be wise to stay away. After all, it's not like Mirai decided to play with pebbles in the middle of the battle, right?

Nevertheless, standing with her arms crossed was not going to help end the battle. The goat's face was plastered on the Chimera's chest, meaning it didn't have a neck or something similar, but Kassandra noticed that there was a patch of skin exposed in one of the legs of the Chimera. Specifically, what an expert would classify as the triceps muscles. Kassandra wasn't an expert in Corrupted Beast anatomy, but she only know enough to discern weak spots, and right now? That was the best she had at the moment. Breaking into a dash to position herself next to the eponymous leg, she held her sword with both her hands, and thrust the blade, attempting to plunge it into the exposed skin. Hopefully whatever Mirai decided to do won't affect her attempt at hurting the Chimera, and whatever it happens, her feet were firmly planted on the ground, spread apart enough to call for a retreat in case her plan somehow backfires.

She also really hoped Koga's blades-on-blade super stick doesn't somehow play against her.

Receiving attack after attack, the large poultry chimera screamed out in frustration as it was getting attacked from all sides. The main head reared itself in preparation for a strike when a loud shot rang out. The chicken head squawked horrifyingly as blood gushed from a spot on its neck.

"There Koga! A weak spot hidden by the feathers!" the scholar Edgar yelled out.

The enkidu let out a loud howl as he pivoted on his foot and swung his heavy blade with both his power and weight behind it. The edge slammed against the spot Edger marked out. The rows of teeth that protuded from the sword spun in rotation rapidly, sawing against the spot it was pressed against in rapid speed. The weapon let out a shrill shriek and a loud buzz like a giant hive of bees. The small blades seem to saw against the spot, chipping and cleaving it rapidly by the roar of an engine.

The chimera tried to thrash but Emily lashed her sword-whip around its main head pulled it back. Koga's weapon sawed at the weak spot constantly, blood spraying in a horrific matter, when suddenly the blade seemed to dig deeper and deeper before it cleaved through the neck completely.

With a pained hiss, the chimera fell to the ground in a collapsed heap. The remaining heads groaned in various sounds weakly before falling limp. Before long the whole monster began to disintegrate until its body completely disappeared.

With a flick, the blood and viscera that caked Koga's gruesome weapon flew off and splattered onto the dirt. He turned a switched and his sword reverted to its base form and he returned it to his back. Emily made a similar motion with her weapon while Edger simply returned his rifle to the sling on his back.

"Good work everyone!" Emily cheered, standing on one foot and raising a fist to the sky. "If we keep this up, we'll be able to take out five before we rest for the night!"

"This way," Koga instructed gruffly, walking down the direction the chimera came from. Emily gave everyone an encouraging smile before briskly following.

The professor was bouncing around the dissolving chimera, scribbling something in his red book.

"Fascinating! So it's enough to destroy one head. So it requires all present organs to function to remain alive. Or is it possible that there's only one shared brain and the rest of the heads are ornamental? Let's make sure to continue destroying heads to narrow the possibilities and limit variables!"

Edger quickly caught up pace with the rest of the group, his cape fluttering with each step.

Seeing the chimera down on the ground and missing one head, Mirai reverted her parasol and hummed.

"Underwhelming," she murmured to herself. She heard Emily cheer, and she looked around. "Indeed, everyone was quite impressive."

Mirai took one of the spare metal spheres in her hand until it closed in on itself into a smaller version before tucking it into one of her many pockets. She would look at her other companions. The frail girl who was only a tad taller than her was rather good with the spear, much to her surprise. She wondered, however, just how much force a thin person could apply before failing to properly penetrate. A person strong enough to take the end of the spear could also use it against her, if she was thinking of the physics correctly. The cranky one was your typical swordsman. Swordspell, most likely, though she hadn't seen her use magic just yet. As for the three...

They had their own unique weapons, all of which Mirai was observing from a distance. As they walked, she heard the scholar talk about weaknesses.

"That does indeed sound possible," she said. "It's a shame that these beasts can't be examined the same way ordinary ones are. If they didn't dissipate right away, it would be possible to do far more profound studies on them. Then again, a colleague of mine suggested perhaps one of the closest ways to get anything based off of them is through their origin animals. Chimeras appear to be hybrids of multiple animals that somehow mutated together or whatnot."

She once again looked at Eun and Kassima.

"I take it you two have had your share of interesting corrupted beasts, too?"
