When his eyes managed to remain open, he noticed that his hit actually landed, causing the wolf to wince in pain. This victory would be shortlived however, as the wolf let out a loud shriek, stinging Goibniu's ears. [color:4ff5=#fe0]"Nnnnnngah!" He yelped, covering his ears to stop the noise. This moment caused the wolf to successfully gain distance by running away, but Goibniu was not done.

Despite being a gentleman, he still believed in a fair use of self-defense. Not to mention, a wounded wolf could return to it's pack and recover to fight them again, only with a few more allies. Of course, the increase in distance and his eyes still stinging a bit would be variables that'd work against him, so he'd need a bit of luck guiding his bullet, if he wanted to quickly dispose of the wolf.

Aiming his firearm, Goibniu fired away, hoping he added damage would at least knock the wolf out.

Haha! Yes! Aleph smiled in joy as the strike finally hit home on the wolf. He stood back and watched as Liseran's lightning struck the wolf, effectively paralyzing it and, hopefully, leaving it vulnerable to just one more attack. So, with both hands on the handle, Aleph raised the sword over his head and swung it down onto the wolf, aiming to slice it in two.

This time, three of the wolves went down consecutively. Goibniu had been fortunate to shoot this one square and this time it had penetrated through the wolf's hide. Aleph and Maia's own strikes brought their opponents down as well. The forest was quiet again.

"Splendid work," she said. "Now step back from the bodies, please."

Liseran would lift her bells again and cast several marks that set the bodies alight. The fires shimmered brightly but as soon as they engulfed the beasts, they dissipated to dust and left not a single ember.

"That was a little more taxing than I had expected our first encounter to be," she said. "We should carry on before we lure other beasts."

Maia sighed and clutched her arm. "Merde..." She muttered. She reached into her bag and pulled out a roll of bandages. She began wrapping the bandages around the wound. She was taught to do this as there weren't a lot of healers outside of towns and cities. "We don't have time for healing magic. This should help with the bleeding at least, but I'll have to get it looked at when we get back."

"I rather not deal with anymore beasts." Maia agreed. As they began leaving, she sighed again. "Hopefully that's the last of them. But knowing our luck we're going to run into some corrupted frogs."

Perhaps it was luck? Or maybe it was his skills once again saving his hide, but whatever the case, Goibniu's shot managed to strike true, defeating the wolf. To his relief, the others managed to beat their wolves as well, erasing the threat completely. "Phew! That was intense." He said, and then Goibniu saw Liseran perform some sort of spell that caused the wolves' bodies to fire up. It didn't last long, but once it was done, not a single trace of the wolves was left.

Of course, he was rather wary of Liseran's motions, not because she cremated the wolves, but the medium she used. However, second guessing his partners wasn't going to lead to anything good, and they just managed to survive a small group of beasts, all he could do at the moment was suck it up. As everyone tended to their wounds, Goibniu grabbed a few bullets from his sachet, and reloaded his firearm, making the barrel do a small twirl once he was done. "Right, it's best if we continue our trip." He said, as Liseran and Maia hoped that was the last they'd see of this forest's corrupted animals.

"If we're fast enough, we won't have to," Liseran said as she placed her bells in their holsters.

The group would continue walking along the path. The trees that lined the path on both sides would eventually clear out as the ground steepened to a slope. At the end of the path was a divergence leading to a main road while another led to a stone stairwell that led down to the open land near the of a lake. There, a couple of stone cabins stood as did several picnic tables, fir trees and stone pathways.

"This seems to be the spot," Liseran said. "What do you suggest we do first? Scavenge the ground or ask the folks?'

Maia raised an eyebrow. "We're not exactly the favourite group of people in the world, and I doubt the residents would appreciate random people coming to their homes and asking about a locket." She replied.

"My vote's for scavenging, but if needed then I'll help talk to people."

The trip continued, and eventually their quest would land them in what appeared to be a tiny settlement. Could this be a hamlet in the making? Or perhaps it was merely a zone constructed by a family for recreational purposes? Goibniu didn't know, but perhaps this could be a sign of civilization, a potential aid for their quest!

Liseran mentioned how they could either scavenge the ground or ask the inhabitants, a decision that was a no brainer for Goibniu. He did listen to Maia's choice, and while it made sense theoretically, it would put the risk on them being confused for bandits by the people living here. "Mmmh, I think it'd be best to ask to the folks here. Maybe they have info that can help us! Besides, if they see us snooping around, they might try to retaliate against us for suspicious behavior." He mentioned, rubbing his chin thoughfully."

    Liseran crossed her arms.

"Seems the vote's divided out," she said.

She could already tell why Maia of all people would vote for not talking to others. The girl seemed to be on edge about having to socialize with regular people, and the fact that her seal made it rather apparent she was a Walpurgis would only make more sense.

"I suppose we should split then," she said. "After all, there are four of us. I'll go with Maia looking around the perimeter. Officer, I have no doubts that you have remarkable interrogative skills, so I'll leave you and Monsieur Aleph to the asking of the villagers. Come, Maia, we can start by the edge of the lake since that's where the woman mentioned it last being."

Meanwhile, Goibniu and Aleph would have several houses to pick from. From the get-go, a young man in a shirt with rolled-up sleeves and patchy trousers stood outside one small hut and leaned over a workbench. He appeared to be sanding a thin piece of wood.

"Works for me." Maia replied. She had already had enough of this quest, but she was going to see it to its end. She wondered how Goibniu and Aleph were going to get the villagers to talk. An Enkidu and a Walpurgis weren't exactly the most desirable pair in the world to appear at your doorstep, but hopefully, they would figure something out.

She began following Liseran to the edge of the swamp. She wondered why the woman brought the locket out here anyway.
"It's odd." She began. "This isn't really a place to be flashing jewelry around. How did she drop it? You would think that you would put it around your neck or away safely in a pouch or bag."
