    Incantus Contracts Empty Incantus Contracts

Post by Lilac Sat Jul 07, 2018 12:38 am

Incantii are infamous for their constant desire to make contracts with humans, Walpurgis and mundane alike. A contract is a mutual agreement with a set of conditions and requirements that must be met by the Incantii and the human. It can be done for multiple reasons and may be in order to gain power, to unseal one's Cantus, to have a wish granted, or to even have someone resurrected. All of this, of course, are only possible depending on the two parties.

    Process:

A contract can take as long to form as weeks or months or even years, or as quickly as a few seconds. Some Incantii meet their contractee when they're in dire need, while others try to gain the trust of the contractee over a period of time. Regardless, the Incantus and person can go over the terms, but once the words "I accept your contract" are spoken, the contract is made and sealed.

When a person accepts a contract, the Incantus will paralyze them and extract their Anima before proceeding to absorb or devour it. The Anima will no longer reside physically in the person, making their bodies merely tools for their use. Rather, their Anima will reside in the Incantus and will be able to tap into its own Cantus energy and mantra. The person can use this freely as well as will their Incantus to do their bidding, so long as it was agreed upon in the contract. If a wish was involved, this means the Incantus will carry out the wish for them after devouring the Anima and then become their partner.

A contract cannot be broken under any circumstances, save for when the person or Incantus dies or the person's Anima eventually corrupts. The corruption process will depend heavily on their usage of the Cantus and corruption takes twice as fast than in a normal Cantus user. A person who makes a contract with an Incantus will also no longer be able to use Carta as their soul no longer resides in them.

Another way the contract can be broken is through an Exorcism or Purging. This can be only done by an Expiate officer, or at least, they're the only ones authorized to do it. It is, however, a life-threatening task since, if done incorrectly, the Anima might "shatter" and thus kill the person. An Exorcism is usually the opposite of a contract being formed. This time the Incantus is bound and their mantra is extracted. From their mantra, a person's Anima is filtered and restored back into the person's body. The Expiate member will then proceed to kill the Incantus, therefore reversing the effects of the contract, except for wishes granted.

*Note: wishes are usually minor ones depending on the Incantus. It is more of a result of their own doing rather than changing the world or bending people to one's will.
